Kalispera! Greek top chef Yannis Baxevanis makes a guest appearance at «Gildo‘s»

From 27 February to 9 March 2019, the Cretan lifestyle will find its way into the Palace

«Kalispera» instead of «Buonasera»: For ten days., Greek will be spoken at «Gildo’s Ristorante». Because star chef Yannis Baxevanis – who is also seen as the Jamie Oliver of Greece – will celebrate the Cretan lifestyle par excellence in the Palace kitchen during the Greek weeks. The Palace is also breaking new ground with the White Party to close the festival on 9 March – with a fiery finale at «GreenGo» .

THE SILK ROAD NOW LEADS TO GSTAAD

Family business is programme in the Palace. And family tradition also runs the work of our partners. The most current example is only a few minutes’ walk away from our hotel: The Boghossian family of jewellers will be opening its new boutique in the middle of December 2018 opposite the tourism office. The family’s eventful history reaches back into the 1860s, when the young Ovannes Boghossian sets up his jeweller’s workshop on the Silk Road in 1868. A journey through time with a successful family of entrepreneurs - from Mardin to Gstaad.

A wonderful swap

In summer it stands beautifully prominently in front of the main entrance, polished to a mirror finish every day, not one piece of dust, one spot, nothing. Even though it’s getting on a bit now, it’s still got it: the Rolls Royce Phantom (built 1952). The hotel’s flagship has already experienced a great deal. It has played a part in films, chauffeured royalty and political figures around. And the Phantom actually ended up at the hotel more by chance.

Gstaad takes off – airfield for star tourism

The airfield was reopened in Gstaad at the end of July 2018 and accommodates 30 aeroplanes or helicopters. Gstaad Palace and the Scherz family have been supporting the airfield for three generations: Grandfather Scherz fought for it to be used for civil aviation too, Ernst Scherz provided manpower and financial support to help with the first renovation of the airstrip and Andrea Scherz, today’s General Manager and owner, has put his heart and soul into the new building as the Vice President. Service is given top priority by Andrea Scherz, General Manager and owner, not just in his own four walls. He explains how the military airfield was turned into a millionaire’s airfield.
