From Mountain to Table: Cow Leasing for Cheese Lovers

There is no meal better than one enjoyed in fresh, mountain air and made from ingredients grown by local farms. No matter how simple the meal, the taste and the flavour far surpass anything you could find in a supermarket. We at Gstaad Palace know this well and so, for the past few years, we’ve been supporting a sustainable initiative of the local Perreten family. By “renting” one of the organic farm’s local dairy cows, we receive wholesome cheese made from her milk which we place on the breakfast buffet- much to the delight of our guests. The cow’s name is Bergrose, meaning “Mountain Rose”. When was the last time you could name the cow your cheese came from?

We are now offering our guests the exclusive chance to take a taste of this delicious local cheese home with them. If you’re looking for a gift for a foodie in your life (or for yourself!) we can’t think of anything more special or personal. You can adopt a cow of your choice for one summer or longer. A fee of CHF 200 entitles you to ten kilograms of fine alpine cheese made from the milk of your cow. With this gift, you’re not only supporting a family and a local dairy farm but you’ll also be enjoying the finest cheese for less money than at your local deli. The best part? You can visit your cow in its idyllic summer pasture on the Walig Alp, almost 2,000 metres above sea level, to discover the art of Swiss cheesemaking for yourself.
