Expand your horizons without expanding your carbon footprint.
The Gstaad Palace as Member of Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. (LHW) is the first luxury brand, which not only provide consumers the option of having a carbon-neutral travel experience, but also to make the financial contribution on their behalf to offset their energy consumption. We are delighted to make the financial commitment to Sustainable Travel International (STI), the non-profit leader in sustainable tourism, to offset the environmental impacts of our guests’ overnight stays (i.e. the use of electricity in room and in common areas) while staying at the Gstaad Palace.
Although this is not the best solution for addressing climate change, it is our first endeavor to help reduce unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions.

Ecologically with District Heating Network
Heating-history was written in the Gstaad Palace in December: The first kilowatt hour from the heating district Saanen-Gstaad was symbolically inaugurated in the heating basement of the renowned Hotel as the start of an ecologic delivery of heat for the whole region. After only two months of building and an enormous investment of CHF 650.000 is the Gstaad Palace the first client heated through locally renewed energy.
However it is not the first time that the establishment heats with wood. During World War II as coal was beginning to get scarce, the hotel was forced to change to wood as a primary heating tool. In the 50s the establishment then switched to oil heating. About 60 years later, the Hotel is once again being heated with wood.
“Ecology is neither a foreign word nor a illness, Ecology is the right way into the future“ says Andrea Scherz, General Manager. Through the heating district, the air quality in the Saanenland will improve significantly, and will save 270’000 liters of heating oil used by the Hotel every year. This used to sustainability within the region.http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=ziiQA&search=sustainability&trestr=0x1c01
